Thanks to the city planning team in Maplewood, there are tons of great parks in the area. Today we’ll mention some of our favorite spots in the area to visit.

Best Parks in Maplewood, Minnesota

Wakefield Park

Wakefield has achieved many glowing reviews and is a newly updated park with all kinds of great features throughout. There’s a playground, picnic area, gazebos, and walking paths. The park is also seated right on a lake with a convenient fishing pier where you can walk out and cast out a few.

Keller Regional Park

This park is also situated on a lake and makes it easy to enjoy Spoon Lake, Gervias, or Keller Lake. At the park, you’ll find public restrooms (a rare find), a fishing pier, picnic tables, and some beautiful walking paths. Some of the trails even take you over beautiful bridges that are great for spotting local wildlife.

Maplewood Heights Park

As you’ve probably noticed, Maplewood parks are more often than not located on a beautiful lake. Maplewood Heights is no different! There are loads of walking paths around the small pond/lake and picnic tables and benches that can be enjoyed if you’re looking for a place to have a nice picnic or grill-out with the family.

Hazlewood Park

Hazelwood is one of our favorites if you’re looking for a place to walk your dog and enjoy nature. Many locals consider it their regular stop when they’re looking for a walk with their dog or looking to enjoy wildlife. There’s a nice paved path, fields for soccer games, and if you look close enough, you might spot an osprey nest.

Afton Heights Park

Moving towards the south side of Maplewood, we find Afton Heights Park. This spot is perfect for the whole family and has several great amenities, including a playground, splash pad, baseball fields, walking paths, soccer fields, and a pond. What’s not to love about Afton Heights?

Battle Creek Regional Park

Battle Creek is a beautiful regional park on the southeast side of St. Paul. While it does definitely have some amazing features and raving reviews, it can be quite busy. You should know that this park will be bustling on holidays and weekends, so plan accordingly. But, there are some great attractions, including an aquatic center, pavilion area, playground, off-leash dog park, and miles of trails.

Battle Creek Dog Park

Battle Creek Dog Park is part of Battle Creek Regional Park, but it deserves recognition on its own. This fenced-in dog park has been described as one of the most expansive in the area. There are miles of trails throughout, a large pond that the dogs can swim in, shaded areas, and places to run in the grass. Whether in the winter or summer, there are lots to enjoy. And, as a bonus, there are plenty of dog bags and garbage bins available throughout.

Fish Creek Natural Area

Fish Creek is a true nature area full of native grasses, flowers, and walking paths that can take you through the majority of the park. While it’s not known for being the best place to see nature, there still are some great things to enjoy.

Edgerton Park

A calm city park that allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Edgerton is a one-stop shop for families. There are walking trails, a basketball court, baseball fields, and a playground. It’s the perfect spot to spend an afternoon.

Applewood Park

Applewood is a quaint park near 494 on the south side of Maplewood. There’s a great playground for the kids, walking paths, and some wooded areas for a splash of nature in the city. When the pond freezes over in the winter, kids and adults get out and enjoy skating and playing hockey together.

Casey Lake Park

On the opposite end of town on the north side, Casey Lake has some beautiful and clean facilities to enjoy throughout the park. There are bathrooms, trails, a great lake, a children’s playground, and gorgeous scenery. You won’t find many parks with features like this one, and it’s perfect for hosting parties with a small building on site that can be rented from the City of North St. Paul.
