A.J. Alberts Plumbing is a locally owned residential plumbing and water conditioning company based in Woodbury, Minnesota. Founded in 1989 and continuously operated under local ownership for 37 years, we serve the Twin Cities East Metro, the St. Croix Valley, and parts of Western Wisconsin. Best of Woodbury 2025 winner and 2026 finalist with 4.9 stars across more than 800 Google reviews.

Who runs A.J. Alberts

Steve Grohn has owned A.J. Alberts since 1996. He lives in Woodbury, raised his kids through Woodbury Public Schools, and treats every job like it is in his own neighborhood, because most of the time it is.

Day-to-day operations are led by Jason Wallraff, a master plumber, Hudson Wisconsin resident, and former U.S. Marine. Jason is also a licensed RPZ backflow technician and licensed boiler technician.

James Walker, a master plumber and U.S. Navy veteran, leads our south metro service in Lakeville, Burnsville, Apple Valley, Farmington, and Rosemount.

We employ 10 plumbers total, including 5 master plumbers. That is unusually deep bench strength for a locally owned plumbing operation of our footprint, and it means every job is led by a credentialed plumber, not an apprentice.

The “0 commissioned salespeople” policy

The most important number about A.J. Alberts is zero. We do not pay our technicians based on the size of the ticket. Our techs are paid to diagnose your problem and recommend what you actually need. Nothing more.

This is intentional. Most homeowners who have used another Twin Cities plumber in the last decade have a story about being quoted $15,000 for work they did not need. That does not happen here, by design.

What we do

About 40 percent of our business is water conditioning, which is unusually high for a general plumbing company. We are the East Metro’s specialist for hard water, iron, PFAS filtration, and reverse osmosis drinking water systems.

The other 60 percent is general residential plumbing: leaks, fixtures, sump pumps, water service lines, gas lines, water heaters, boilers, drain cleaning.

We do not take on commercial new construction or large industrial projects. We focus on doing residential plumbing exceptionally well.

Our service area

Primary depth in Washington County (Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Stillwater, Lake Elmo, Mahtomedi, Hugo, Hastings) and the St. Croix Valley (Hudson, River Falls).

Active across the broader Twin Cities Metro: Ramsey County, Dakota County, Hennepin County, and Anoka County. See our service areas hub for the full city list, or the water quality map for our city-by-city water context.

How to book

Call 651-738-0580 or schedule online. Most appointments are booked within a day or two. For emergencies (active leaks, no heat in winter, burst pipes), call immediately and we will prioritize you.

Every appointment includes a free in-home water test for hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, and TDS. No obligation. No high-pressure pitch.
