Free In-Home Water Test
Our free in-home test checks hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, alkalinity and total dissolved solids, with a nitrate check for private wells. PFAS testing is available separately for a fee. A basic test does not establish drinking-water safety.
Basic Testing and Water Concerns
Hardness
A measure of dissolved calcium and magnesium, which can contribute to scale and soap residue.
Iron
Iron can contribute to staining. Treatment depends on the measured amount, its form, and other water conditions.
Chlorine
A disinfectant used in municipal water treatment. We discuss taste and odor concerns and suitable filtration options.
pH
A measure of how acidic or alkaline water is, useful when assessing corrosion and treatment needs.
Total Dissolved Solids
A combined reading of dissolved substances. It does not identify individual contaminants or measure PFAS.
Alkalinity
Included in the basic chemistry readings and considered alongside the other results.
Nitrate for Private Wells
The basic well-water check includes nitrate. It is not a complete drinking-water safety panel.
Odor & Taste Concerns

What is included in the free basic water test?
Our free basic in-home water test checks hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and total dissolved solids, with nitrate testing for private wells. It does not measure PFAS or certify that water is safe to drink.
Is PFAS testing included?
A.J. Alberts offers separate paid laboratory PFAS testing for municipal-water and private-well customers. We collect and submit the sample and explain the report. Confirm the test scope, price, and turnaround when scheduling; PFAS is not included in the free basic water test.
Does a basic test prove my water is safe?
No. Different tests answer different questions. Review your water-source information and discuss appropriate laboratory testing for health contaminants with a qualified provider or public-health agency.
